Common questions
Can you replace copper with copper, the way it was?
Yes. We shape copper and zinc in our own shop and on site, so dormers, flashings and caps can be remade the way they were built.
Is it worth restoring an old slate roof?
Usually. Good slate can last a very long time if the flashings and fasteners are kept up. We’ll tell you honestly if yours is past saving.
How long do copper and zinc last?
They can last for generations. When they fail, it’s usually at the seams or where someone patched them, and those parts can be remade without redoing the rest.
My chimney leaks into the attic. Is it the roof or the chimney?
Most often it’s the flashing where the two meet. We check the flashing and the cap and tell you exactly where the water gets in.
My gutters were replaced with plain aluminum. Can you put back something that suits the house?
Yes. We can replace them with metal gutters and downspouts in a style that fits an older house, including half-round.
Do the slates have to come off to redo a valley?
The ones along the valley do. We set the sound slates aside, put in new metal, and lay them back so the roof looks the way it did.
