A roof and a chimney meet at the same spot, and that spot is where a lot of leaks start. We do the roof side: the shingles, the slate, the flashing and the metal cap. When the trouble is in the chimney itself, like loose bricks, worn mortar, a cracked crown or a bad liner, that is a mason’s job.

When you need a roofer and a mason

  • Water comes in around the chimney. It can be the flashing (ours) or the bricks and crown above it (theirs). An inspection tells you which.
  • You are redoing the roof and the chimney is in rough shape. With the roof open, it is the best time to repoint or rebuild the chimney and put new flashing on it.
  • The chimney is crumbling above the roofline. Loose bricks can damage a new roof, so the masonry should be done first.
  • You no longer use the fireplace. Ask both of us whether the chimney should be capped, repaired or taken down below the roof.

Common questions

Do you repair chimneys?

We do the roof side of a chimney: the flashing, the counter-flashing and metal caps. Brick, mortar, crowns and liners are masonry, and that is Maximum Precision’s work.

My chimney leaks. Who do I call?

Either of us. Most chimney leaks come from the flashing or the crown, and an inspection shows which one. If it is the masonry, Maximum Precision takes care of it.

Should I fix my chimney before I redo my roof?

Usually, yes. Repair the masonry first, then the roof and new flashing go on around a sound chimney, and the new roof isn’t damaged by falling brick later.

Is Maximum Precision licensed?

Yes. Their RBQ licence is 5756-4098-01, and they are WETT certified.
